Live Music Saturday 3rd October

SOUNDMINDS are playing in Motherwell Shopping Centre on Saturday 3 October with a day of musical activities to promote positive mental health.

The event is part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival (SMHAFF) which runs throughout October. There will be performances from local bands, with shoppers also getting the chance to try different instruments themselves.

The main organiser of the event, John Gray, said:
“Soundminds will be delivering live music, a chance for all the family to get involved in instrument tasters, and to let us know their thoughts and opinions on what can be done to challenge the stigma attached to mental health.”

Soundminds has been hosting events in Lanarkshire since 2009. Organised by a group of volunteers from local charity Reeltime Music, this is the second year the event will take place in Brandon Parade shopping centre.

Lanarkshire band The Vistas, who have just released their debut single Move On from the Past, are confirmed to perform. Drummer, Eamonn Kelly, said:
“We think it’s a great cause as there needs to be more awarness about mental health. Music is the best way to the spread the word and we are really looking forward to playing.”

Soundminds will run from 10.00am until 3.30pm. The Lanarkshire launch of the ninth annual SMHAFF festival will take place at the Alona Hotel on Wednesday 23 September with a special showcase hosted by Lanarkshire Links.
