Real Reindeer Parade & Christmas Lights Switch On
Fans arrived as early as 7.30am on a Sunday to grab the best place in front of the stage for the talent that would light up Motherwell Shopping Centre later that day.
Geraldine El Masrour, Centre Manager of Motherwell Shopping Centre had arranged for the best line up of talent the centre has seen to light up the lights for 2014. The day started with music from popular band “All She Knows” then straight into Santa’s parade headed by an 8 strong reindeer team. Shelby Harkness, aged 4 years old from Knowetop Primary School won a competition to sit in the sleigh with Santa as the parade snaked through the centre and brought joy and Christmas cheer to a packed crowd.
The Valerie Brown School of Dance took to the stage and delighted shoppers with their moves followed quickly by the McDougalls Crazy Concert. Max, Molly, Auntie Aggie and Morag the Rabbit put on a spectacular show for the little ones in the audience. 10 year old Keira Swift put our shoppers in the festive mood with 3 cracking Christmas songs ahead of the 2 main acts for the day.
5 piece boyband Rewind took to the stage at 3pm much to the delight of our shoppers. Kasey Munroe band manager said “The boys had the most amazing time at Motherwell Shopping Centre. This was a new venue for JB, Jack, James, Kieran and Liam and we’ll be back to see the fans in 2015 for sure”.
Then the moment everyone was waiting for had arrived….on stage to switch on the 2014 Christmas Lights was home-grown talent Nicholas McDonald. Nicholas was surrounded by friends and family on this special day…not only was be about the switch the lights on home turf but he turned 18 years old on the day of the Motherwell Shopping Centre Christmas Lights.
Nicholas took to the stage shortly after 3.30pm and performed two numbers for the awaited crowd. Santa’s little helpers presented him with a fabulous birthday cake. Nicholas said…”I am so pleased to be performing in my hometown this evening at Motherwell Shopping Centre. The fans here are my friends and loyal supporters and have always been with me throughout my X-Factor journey and beyond. I feel honoured to be switching on the Christmas lights at Motherwell Shopping Centre and sharing my 18th birthday celebrations with my family of fans”. Nicholas was joined on stage by Provost Jim Robertson, host Paul Harper from Heart Radio, Shelby, her family and Santa.
